Avengers Birthday Party Part 1: Prepping

Here's the pics leading up to the party.

We worked our butts off yesterday in the super hot, hot weather to get the playset up, the yard cleaned, the house ready, and cupcakes/cakes frosted, etc.

their personalized goodie bags.  Brenda, my MIL found the bags and embroidered the Avengers, the Iron-Man and their names on them.  Pretty cool.  They had a bunch of Avengers-themed stuff like a cup,frisbee bracelet, a tatoo, gummies and a sticker sheet in them.

Colin insisted we have this (as well as a computer screen I made for the Avengers tower). It was so hot we just didn't even get to play with them

we had washers and bocce out for adults, but it was too hot.  you can see the scavenger hunt pieces hidden though.  it was a cute game that the kids had to find the 4 pieces on their card to win a sticker.

Swingset part 1

Here is the swingset that we are moving.  We are trying to get enough people to move it here on Thursday. 

It's an older rainbow.

It has a wooden roof we need to reshingle, but otherwise it's in pretty good shape.

I added my picks in with the purchased picks.  Mine turned out pretty good in comparison.  Mine just have more white negative space b/c I was too lazy to take a straight razor to them.  Here is the Pottery Barn kids link to purchase the cupcake decorating kit.

Here is the pinata, Loki.  He is designed on the Disney XD version, but I designed him all on my own with a little discussion with my Sister in Law.  It's a pretty good likeness other than being too chunky.  He was a balloon originally though, so what can ya do? I really hope his head doesn't fall off when we try to hang him up!

Here are the character playables that I downloaded from Disney as well.  So many good things there.  Here is the link for the Disney printables: playset, masks, and coloring pages.  I used them all.

Prepping the water bottles.  Bought these from an etsy vendor--along with a lot of my other printables. The vendor is Sugar Tots design.  Here is the party pack I purchased.  I then went to Kinko's with all my stuff to be printed and had most of it printed on cardstock and some on paper.  It was easier and cheaper than buying ink for our dinky ink jet printer.

More Disney printables: C. America and Iron Man masks

The Hulk mask is mixed in here w/all the ones I drew and colored myself.  I think mine turned out really well.  From top left: Black Panther, Wasp, Hulk (row 2), Ant Man, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. These will be available for the kids to wear and for a photo op area.  Still trying to figure that piece out. 

There's the cutes Thor I know.  Disney seriously has awesome printable that came together just as they promised. 

We are getting excited.  C and I baked a miniature cake for him also this morning.  It is chocolate and will have peanut butter frosting.  He wants Iron Man's arc reactor decorated on it.  I think I can manage it. 

I've got some signs to print and finish, but otherwise I have most everything finished until Thursday when I do food shopping and last minute little stuff. 

Dresser sneak peak

The final reveal will be Wed, but here it is almost finished.  You can see the distressing, which was very easy.  I'm really happy with the way it's turned out.  I have to let it all cure before I reassemble it and take a final finished pic, but I'm very pleased.

I have had so many fires going over the last 2 weeks.  With the whole Cosmo debacle and the heat thrown in, things have just been crazy.  Here's a teaser of what kinds of pictures will be coming--you know for those 2 people that still read my blog.


1. I've almost finished my dresser.  The goal is to have it finished by Tuesday.  All I have left to do is the polyacrylic top coat.  The heat has made this project challenging.

2. We found a used swingset.  Hope to have it up and ready to play on by C's bday.

3 The prep for C's Avengers party is in full force.  So far I've made a GIANT Loki pinata (I mean ginormous.  He's bigger than the kids probably.  Potentially too solid as well.  I hope they can bust it. I have printed 90% of my goods.  I have masks for a photo area all prepped, but need to find some stretchy string to use to attach to the kids.  I have masks of Hulk, Iron Man, Cap America, and a Thor helmet I downloaded from Disney.  I also created my own masks (not nearly as 3 dimensional, but oh well, I'm no artist) of the Black Panther, Ant man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Wasp.  We baked cupcakes and froze them--ready to be decorated Friday night.  I made 12 of the 36 picks to go in the cupcakes b/c we didn't have enough or any from the lesser known characters in the 24 pack I bought--it just had the big 4 characters.  I have all the stuff for the goodie bags.  My MIL made awesome, personalized Avenger tote bags for the kids to hold all their goodies.  It's going to be fun and totally different than last year.  That has been a real challenge--to come up with new ideas.  Whew!   Now I just need to photograph it all.  I'm stuck home all day tomorrow b/c Scott is having some hail damage repaired on his car, so he's taking mine to work.  Hopefully I'll be able to get a lot more accomplished.

Enjoying St. Louis

One of the coolest things about St. Louis is all the free activities available.  We have been taking advantage of free and paid activities this summer.

For Scott's birthday we headed to the Botanical Gardens this Wednesday.  Every Wednesday during the summer admission is free after 5pm, and a concert begins at 7:30.  It was really fun.  Tons of people go.  We packed a little picnic, and Scott's parents joined us.  C didn't really appreciate the music.

We went to the Magic House last week, which is a giant kids' museum.  Here he is exploring the bank exhibit.  He looks like a miniature personal banker. 

We had some old friends over last week for dinner.  I wish I had gotten a pic of the hubbies and kids, too.  It was great to catch up.
