Preschool music

Here's a photo I snapped quickly while I was waiting to pick C up from school.  The kids were in the lobby playing duck, duck, goose.  While the parents were waiting for pickup we started to hear the kids coming down the hallway playing instruments.  I grabbed my camera quickly and thankfully he was at the end of the line, so I was able to get a shot.  The day had been all about hearing and things that make noise--which is why they were parading w/instruments.  It was so cute.  As you can tell, C was slowing up the line b/c he was busy dancing to the music.  There was at least 4 or 5 feet between him and the kid in front of him.

Halloween

I'm finally posting the 2 pictures we have from our Halloween activities.

We went to my moms' group Halloween party again this year.  C was a little tired, but had a great time running around with all the other superheros (which seemed to be the most popular genre of costume).  It's like he walked in, saw everyone, and thought, "these are my people."  I wouldn't let him wear his Halloween costume, so he chose to wear Superman jammies w/a cape.  Scott and I were 50's/60's people.  I pulled out my poodle skirt from high school and Scott found some stuff in his closet.

He's carrying 3 spare capes that he insisted go in the car with us.

Halloween night I felt pretty bad, so Scott cooked chili and took C trick or treating.  They were gone about 45 minutes.  They came back after 3 min. to put a sweatshirt on underneath his costume b/c it was so cold. He struggled with his nose bleeding the whole time (as you can see in the pic we have). He was a cute little Captain America.  I didn't get any photos from his preschool costume parade, but he got to wear his costume there, too.  He and I had stopped by Schnucks before to pick up cupcakes and he got a lot of attention.

Scattered thoughts

I feel like all we're capable of handling over at the Dankel household is watching television.  I feel like a complete failure as a parent.  My lil' guy desperately wants to play (and watch tv), but I seem to not have the strength to play.  It sucks!  Sometimes I literally can't keep my eyes open while I'm holding a toy.  I've allowed C to watch way more tv than normal b/c we don't go anywhere that's not mandatory--i.e. we don't run errands that suck up time.  I do all my errands while he's at preschool since it's close to everything.  Therefore on a day like today, we won't leave the house until almost 1 pm, which for us is crazy, but I've got nothing.  C is always asking me, where are we going.  Honestly, I just want to camp out in my bedroom for the next 2.5 months, but I have a 3 yr old that says no.  Thankfully we do have commitments 5/7 days a week or we would literally go nowhere.  I've had friends help with him, which I'm tremendously grateful for, but the kid's got mad energy sometimes and the weather is terrible. Thankfully C is going to St. Louis Wednesday afternoon, so he can receive some attention and stimulation.

We have been wrapped up in the Star Wars galaxy at our house lately.  We have watched the first 3 movies, and will probably watch the next 3 next week. We've also been reading some library books about the Star Wars galaxy as well.   C says when he grows up to be Aniken Skywalker he'll never go to the dark side.

He also had Scott read him over 100 pages of Eragon before he sort of lost interest--I think he only lost interest b/c he's so into Star Wars.

Even more randomness.  I had my credit card declined Sat. night when I went out for dinner for a girlfriend's bday.  I didn't think much of it b/c I wasn't sure if it was declined or wouldn't scan (which I sometimes have issues with at certain places).  Then we went for pizza after church on Sunday.  Scott's card was declined.  We were freaking out.  We assumed our credit card account number had been stolen and our card was maxed out--which would be crazy. We've never gone over 35 % of our credit limit, so it's plenty large.  Scott paid and then on the way home he called the credit card company.  They had frozen our account for suspicious charges. She had him confirm all our recent transactions to make sure our identity hadn't been stolen.  It hadn't.  Unfortunately he heard his Xmas present--it's from a British specialty store that only sells men's stuff.  Ughhh! What had set the card off was the British store and three purchases at Walmart in 1 day.  1 at one store and then 2 at another Walmart in town.  Nope--that was just us being really inefficient.  I had gone after my haircut to the one in Normal.  Then after lunch, C and I went to the video store to rent the next 2 Star Wars--they didn't have them.  So, Scott and I decided to just buy the whole saga, so we went to the Bloomington Walmart (closer to our house).  We also needed ice cream.  We went to get the DVDs and couldn't find them.  They kept the Star Wars saga behind the electronics counter, so we had to pay for it in that department, and then we had to buy ice cream at the front.  So, my Christmas gifts will be somewhat expected--though he's not sure exactly what he's getting.  So after Scott verified everything we were relieved.

Yesterday...the great Vick's debacle of 2011

Yesterday was a normal day: me feeling terrible and C with lots of energy ready to burn.  So by the time I worked myself to getting out of the house the wind had really picked up.  We headed to the park anyway, but didn't last more than 10 or 15 minutes.  It was crazy windy.

Then we had kindermusik, where C kept saying he wanted to go home (awesome).  Then on to the really great stuff.  Naptime.  Oh how I need naptime.  When he naps, I try to nap/rest as well.  Yesterday I ended up in my bed while he was asleep as well after a particularly nasty spell of being sick.  When I get really sick, I end up really dizzy and worn out afterwards.  C was patient in the morning, but b/c we hadn't done much he didn't think he was tired.  He played in his room for an hour (which was loud, so I couldn't sleep), then he came out to say he was done.  I said, oh no you aren't--back to bed.  This time he was quiet, so I fell asleep for about 30 minutes.  When I woke up I heard Scott talking (he was working from home and evidently heard C yelling).  I turn the corner to see Scott carrying C at arms length to the bathroom.  I assumed he'd vomited b/c he's been doing that for the last week with this crazy drainage cough he has.  Scott said, no, no vomit. Come and look.  It was a sight to behold.

You probably need to supersize the photo to appreciate the amount of Vick's that is on his face.  He had rubbed almost an entire jar of baby Vick's on his face and hair.  I guess he was trying to get it on his chest and back, which is why he got it all over his shirt. Amazingly enough he didn't get it on anything else--not his bed (where he was), not his animals, bedding, blankie or anything.  I was shocked.  I was mad.  Scott was much calmer thankfully and he took care of the removal.  Unfortunately the shirt had to be thrown away--no salvaging it--which is sad b/c it was his favorite.  The removal from the hair didn't go so well.  After about 12 washings, a fine-toothed comb, and dish soap we called it quits. Scott washed it one more time before bed.

Today he looks like a grease ball, but it will eventually wash out.

A trip to the dentist

So this post is over a month late, but better late than never.

C had his first trip to the dentist, and he did great.  I can't say enough good things about the dentist and hygenist he saw.  Top notch.  They made it quick, painless, and fun for him.  The dentist even let C shoot the mister a couple of times.  C told him he was Optimus Prime and this cracked both of them up, and they both went with it.

You can't really see them, but he's wearing these cute sunglasses they gave him to wear.  He thought he was cool.  Then he got a token to choose a prize when he was finished.  Now he asks me when I go to the doctor if I get a special surprise.  Sadly no.

Sorry...

I don't have a good excuse for not blogging other than lack of motivation and lack of doing anything interesting for the last month.  I'm going to try to get some motivation, but no promises.

Kicking chickens

We are still here.  Just living the chaos of life.  I am feeling spectacularly terrible with this pregnancy (yet again).  C has been a sweet little guy through the midst of it.  He's convinced he is going to have a little brother.  He won't tolerate any talk of it possibly being a girl.  It's so cute.  He always tells me the most random things at the most random times.

For example:

Today on the way home from preschool: "mommy, I will help feed our baby when it come."  i tried to let him know that would be much appreciated once the baby got big enough to eat solid foods. I just wasn't ready to have the nursing talk with him b/c I could just see him talking about it at church, preschool, etc.

Monday: "i will forgive my little baby when he pushed down other kids." Umm forgiveness is great, but you will probably have to forgive him/her for taking your toys.

That's all I can remember right now, but he's always saying something cute about "jack-jack"--his name for the baby.

My girlfriend asked me today if we'd thought about names.  Not really.  Scott is so busy and I feel so crummy that we don't talk about the baby at all.  I think we are just on hold until we find out the sex of the baby.  Just like naming Colin, we don't agree on any names, so it will be a long battle--so it's not worth waging until we really need to throw down.

I have no pictures--fail.
