Milestones--We have a crawler

Colin started really crawling last night. He's been doing a couple crawls together, but he did about six movements together last night, and did even more this morning. He seems to know he's got it figured out, so I'm guessing once he gets really good at it I won't be sitting down for the next year. He'll be into everything. Last night he was throwing a fit in the living room while Scott and I were cooking dinner, so I brought him into the kitchen, sat him on the floor, and gave him a plastic bowl and wooden spoon. He found it great fun...that is until he fell over after about 8 minutes and hit his shoulder/head against the floor/cabinet? He was okay, but it scared him. We will have lots of falls to come once he begins to cruise and walk, but he seems pretty tough.

Back to Normal-root of the problem

Colin didn't sleep yesterday from 11 am through 8:30 pm. Long day!!! He refused his early afternoon nap, and he refused a late afternoon nap, and then we had small group. On Thursday nights he is always up late, but this was not a good night to keep him up. He had skipped his afternoon nap all week. Carla, the sitter, and I had wondered if it was b/c he was now in a pack n' play at her house. But finally, today, he gave in, and took his nap there. I noticed he had a new tooth today--which I hadn't even noticed coming in before. I think this might have been the problem. So we're back to a 9:30 and 1:00 nap schedule (in crib or pack n play). We always cross our fingers for an evening one, but he has refused pretty much his entire life.

Sleepless in the afternoon

Colin is waging a battle of the wills against us and the sitter. He is refusing to take a second nap. He has been moved to a pack and play at the sitters and he is revolting. I bring him home, and now he's revolting against the swing, once a surefire go-to. Nothing is working. I feel bad for him. He needs to sleep, but he refuses. It's starting to catch up with him. We're on our 5 day in a row of poor naps. His temperament is showing the sleep deprivation. It's like he's afraid he's going to miss something.

Happy Valentine's

Today was maybe the best Valentine's that I can remember. I got to hang it with my boys, catch a movie with some girlfriends, and then have a delicious meal prepared mostly by Scott. Colin helped me vacuum this morning and marinate some vegetables before I left. While I was gone at the movies he crawled one whole cycle. I saw He's Just Not That Into You. It was a very so-so movie for me, but it really made me appreciate the life I have. Before I left I marinated some vegetables for a winter salad and prepared some chocolate souffles for later cooking. When I returned Scott had the table set with our china, the lobster cooking, the veggies cooking, salad ready for the veggies, the steak on the grill, wine poured, and the oven preheated for the souffles. I couldn't have directed him better. I literally just had to sit down.

7 months

Colin was 7 months earlier this week. It's been a hectic week (not sure why?). Here's an update on Colin.

He LOVES solid food. He usually eats with gusto anything we give him.
He's working on his pincer grasp...stuff gets lost in his palm.
He loves playing on the floor: rolling, scooting, and rocking up on his hands and knees. He still can't crawl, but he's sooo close. Any day now. We had to put a gate at the stairs. Our poor dogs are running out of safe places to walk. He has changed the input on our receiver many times already.
He has 3 teeth now, and I think number 4 isn't far behind.
He loves tags, dogs, and his keys, and he wishes he could get the dogs' tails more than he manages.
He goes through phases where he is incredibly talkative, and then he'll be very quiet.
He loves to be tickled and giggle.

He has changed so much. I look at pics from when he was first born, and I can't believe he's the same kid.

Sad to leave friends

Cobbs, Snyders, Lauers we loved seeing you guys! It was so wonderful to see old friends this weekend. It was such a short time, but I love when you meet with old friends with whom you have a solid relationship--you just pick back up so easily. I've got some great friends from high school, college, and St. Louis that I can do this with. God created us as social beings for a reason, and this short little time refueled my tank. If only the Lockes and little Noah could have been there, too. I was never much of a kid person, but my heart changed when the Lockes provided our first little addition to the small group. It just warms your hear to hear little kids laugh and play together.

This weekend

Can't wait to see friends this weekend!!!! I hope we can take Colin for his first trip to the zoo since it's supposed to be nice. Colin is feeling icky again, so I hope the warmer weather zaps it quick. I've never has so many colds in a season until Colin. We just can't seem to completely shake it, so it just comes back after a week or so.
