How dairy plots world domination from my refrigerator
Today is trash day--which usually means a good purge of rotting fruit and old meats. Today I decided to dig a little deeper. I finally worked on cleaning out the prepackaged plastic containers of nastiness: aka creamer, sour cream, ricotta cheese, etc. What I discovered is that I evidently hate this job. You really won't find old leftovers in my fridge, but I can't make promises about lunchmeat and dairy products other than milk. You know how I know this? Here are the contents I opened/disposed of from my 2 refrigerators:
2 open cartons of Oregon Chai (both of which have been opened since November at least--1 in each fridge
3 unopened containers of light sour cream (all expiring in December or early January)--apparently any time I walked in any grocery store this fall I bought sour cream (they are all different brands)
1 opened container of sour cream (just slightly expired)
1 opened container of flavored coffee creamer (from this fall)
1 unopened container of ricotta cheese (I bought too many for our dinner party and never made good use of this extra one)
So what I learned is--
even though I use a list at the grocery store I "might" not have the best sense of what's in my refrigerator (things have a way of surprising me in my garage refrigerator).
i just wasted over $10-$15 in dairy products that my family would have eaten had I been more responsible.
you don't even want to see my pantry.

I hate when i do this. I feel so guilty. I'm trying to cut back, but I still could toss spoiled food once a week.
I feel doubly bad when the food is so spoiled that I just toss it instead of recycling the package.
